“Cultural Diversity Festival”

The project is funded by the “Europe for Citizens” program of the European Union, strand 2 – Democratic engagement and civic participation, Measure Twinning of Cities.

Project goals:

  • Establishment of cooperation and long-term partnership between the village of Benkovski, Kirkovo Municipality, Bulgaria, Nis, Serbia, Thessaloniki, Greece and Valya Voyevozilor, Romania to promote intercultural dialogue and mutual understanding and combat the stigmatization of minority groups.
  • Raising awareness of the richness of Europe’s cultural and historical environment.
  • To enable citizens to express what Europe wants and to outline their long-term vision for the future of European integration, social and political cohesion in the EU.
  • To give the citizens of the twinned municipalities the necessary resources to stay connected in the future and to work on joint ideas and projects.

The project envisages the following activities:

  1. Folklore Festival of Cultural Diversity.
  2. Culinary Festival of Cultural Diversity.
  3. Craft Festival.
  4. Establishment of a Regional European Youth Parliament.
  5. Conducting a consultation with the residents of the twinned municipalities on their vision for the development of the EU.

The project will involve 430 direct participants and 200 indirect participants.

General objectives of the project-oriented program:

  • To contribute to citizens’ understanding of the Union, its history and diversity.
  • Promoting European citizenship and improving the conditions for civic and democratic participation at EU level.
