„Twined towns work together on EU youth priorities: engage, connect, empower“

The project is funded by the “Europe for Citizens” program of the European Union, strand 2 – Democratic engagement and civic participation, Measure Twinning of Cities.

Project goals:

  • Establishment of cooperation and long-term partnership between the Municipality of Kirkovo, Bulgaria, the Municipality of Avdera, Greece and the Municipality of Kavadarci, Northern Macedonia in the field of EU youth priorities: engagement, connection, empowerment.
  • Raising citizens’ awareness of the EU institutions, their rights as EU citizens, solidarity in the EU.
  • To give citizens the opportunity to express what they want in Europe and to outline their long-term vision for the future of European integration and to make suggestions on how the EU can get closer to its citizens.
  • To give the citizens of the three municipalities the necessary resources to stay connected in the future and work on joint ideas and projects.

The project envisages the following activities:

  1. An online survey on the subject “What type of Euro do citizens want”.
  2. Quiz for EU institutions with prizes.
  3. Role-playing games on the rights of EU citizens.
  4. Training on EU youth programs and platforms.
  5. Establishment of a partnership agreement and guides to good practice from Europe on “EU priorities for youth: engagement, networking, empowerment” and “Innovative methods for formal and non-formal education in Europe”.
  6. International evening and twinning ceremony.
  7. Promotion of the ecological and cultural heritage of the three municipalities.

The project will involve 365 direct participants and 3,000 indirect participants.

General objectives of the project-oriented program:

  • To contribute to citizens’ understanding of the Union, its history and diversity.
  • Promoting European citizenship and improving the conditions for civic and democratic participation at EU level.
